Joseph Yakupciak was born on December 22, 1906 to Czechoslovakia immigrants Michael and Emilia Yakupciak. He lived in Port Chester, Westchester County, New York when he enlisted the service (#32810700) on February 19, 1943. The Morning Report of Company G, 331st Infantry Regiment from July 17, 1944 listed him as assigned and joined from the 41st Replacement Battalion as of July 16, 1944. At that time, the Company was in the vicinity of Sainteny, Normandy, France. Because of his age, he was nicknamed "Old Joe". According to the Morning Report of November 1, 1944 he was promoted from Private to Private First Class as of that day. At the end of the war he was transfered to the 36th Tank Battalion of the 8th Armored Division and was staged at Camp Philip Morris before he sailed back to the US from Le Havre.
Joseph Yakupciak lived in Rocky Hill, Hartford County, Connecticut when he died at age of 73 on March 24, 1980 and is burried, together with his wife Martha, at the Westfield Cemetery, Danielson,
Windham County,
Connecticut.
